The 6 and 0 1990 Reds visited the 6 and 0 2016 Cubs in the battle first place in the Continental Division.
Game 1:
Jack Armstrong v. Jon Lester
There was very little offense in this game and the score was tied at zero heading to the bottom of the 9th. The Reds brought in Randy Meyers to try and force extra innings. The Cubs decide to pinch hit for Addison Russell who has been struggling against left handed pitchers with Jorge Soler. Soler multiple Meyer offerings before hitting Meyers 6th pitch into the leftfield bleachers for a walk off win for the Cubs.
Game 2:
Danny Jackson v. Jake Arrieta
Another pitcher's duel as the teams combined for just 7 hits. The Cubs scored a run in the bottom of first without registering a base hit. Fowler leadoff with a walk, moved to 2nd on a Zobrist ground out, went to third on a passed ball, and scored on a groundout by Bryant. The run proved to be the only one the Cubs needed, but they added 2 insurance runs in the bottom of the 8th off of Norm Charlton. Arrieta, Grimm, and Chapman combine for a 3 hit shutout.
Game 3:
Tom Browning v. Jon Lackey
This one was all Cubs as they jumped on Browning for 3 runs in the first, one in the second, and 3 more in the third on their way to a 9 to 2 victory. Dexter Fowler went 4 for 5 with 2 runs and 2 rbi for the Cubs. Lackey goes 8.2 innings giving up just 2 hits and 1 earned run.
In the series, Cubs pitching give up just 2 runs on 10 hits.
